I'm catching up on all of December's happenings.....
Earlier this month the Cub Scouts had a father/son cake decorating contest. Jacob was really excited about it and spent the week beforehand sketching out designs in a notebook. He wanted to do a ski hill with a ski lift and a waterfall, so we set out to make it.
I don't think I'd made a cake since I was about 10 years old. We used two chocolate sheet cakes and stacked them up to make a ski hill. I had no idea how hard frosting a cake could be - I ended up using 6 double sized contianers of frosting in order to get all of the chocolate cake covered up, and Jacob and I had to make an emergency late nite trip to the grocery store to buy enough.
Anyway, the final result was pretty epic. A lot of the other cakes had much greater artistic merit, but I can say without a doubt that ours was the done on the grandest scale. Jacob won the prize for "most extreme" cake, which I thought was pretty fitting.
